Play is the way children discover the world around them.
Free and independent play in the wild outdoors boosts problem-solving skills, focus and self-discipline. Socially, it improves communication, cooperation, flexibility, and self-awareness. Emotional benefits include reduced aggression and increased happiness, self-belief and confidence.
Agile Learning Centers restore the joy to learning by creating intentional cultures that support self-directed education.
The Agile Learning Ecosystem is a rapidly growing global network of micro schools, homeschooling collectives and facilitators who share tools, practices, and resources, seeking to create a new educational paradigm that is adaptive to the people and places it serves.
Founded by three families in love with our children and our natural surrounding, Nature Play ALC is a non-formal education startup - or homeschooling collective - who gather for regular 3 day ALF Weekends on Evia Island.
Every August, we host an immersive and family-friendly 10 day ALF Summer Greece training, set within the stunning Natura 2000 surroundings of the Stagones eco camp.
Join us to discover more about our big picture vision and strategy - to help free education and free our kids, on Evia and all over Greece.
What does Agile Learning mean?
Self-directed: Humans are natural learners. When children get to follow their passions, they engage deeply, learning more quickly and thoroughly – covering years of content in weeks at the time they choose to learn it.
Intentional Culture: At ALCs children feel they are heard, they belong, and they make a difference. As social creatures, we thrive in this kind of vibrant community which builds our confidence, heightens our communication skills, and calls forth our best selves.
Agile Management Tools: We use practical and concrete tools to make these lofty-sounding ideals real and reliable. These tools and practices provide visible feedback, effective self-management, clarity of purpose, and easy integration of new patterns as needs change.
“The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.”
- Dr. Maria Montessori
"Nature is a tool," says Moss, "to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves."
We want out children to feel safe to take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings and grow. We as parents are present and available and the children are free to participate in fun activities or freely explore their surroundings.
We want our children to tell stories of freedom, of power, of control and of intimacy with friends. Independent play, outdoors and being far from grown-up eyes, is what we all remember.
Holding space for authentic growth, discovering who we truly are.
Nature Play ALC is an Agile Learning ecosystem in the making located on the Aegean island region of North Evia in Central Greece. We’re learning from the exponentially growing ALC model in the USA to help nurture a distributed network of Agile Learning Communities in our region, in wider Greece and across Europe.
"We’re already directing ourselves all the time. Everything we do is a choice. Conscious or unconscious, every individual is always in the driver’s seat of their life, their experience. What if we raised kids knowing this? What if we raised kids to pilot their lives on their own?"
— Bear, Agile Learning Facilitator.
